Duckworth call on his troops
Nissan S13 driver Kevin Duckworth was keen to say thanks to all the friends that had helped him get the car fixed ready for Knockhill. Damage sustained at Oulton Park looked equally damaging to his chances of making the trip to Scotland, yet somehow he managed it. “Friends have put in a lot of work… just roughly they’ve given about 138 hours of free time to help me get this fixed and sponsors have helped get hold of parts too. Even normally you couldn’t do this, but at short notice where it’s a case of things having to be done now it’s incredible we’ve done it. I’ve got some friends with a barn that they let me use part of to fix this, but I ended up taking the whole thing over, meaning they couldn’t get to their gardening tools when they wanted too. We made some changes too like lowering the front a little more and putting adjustable rear lower arms on as we weren’t sure if the chassis would be completely straight.” He admitted he was still knackered after driving at Knockhill, and despite coming second in his class was disappointed with his time as he’s been in the 58s round there before. “I’m looking forward to Silverstone, even though it’s a power circuit, I’ve had some of my best results around there!” he adds.
A minute with Fee Kindness

After her small incident at Oulton Park, we figured it was time to catch up with the R32 Skyline driving Club Class competitor at Knockhill. How did you get on at Knockhill? Better than at Oulton Park…at least I didn’t crash this time! You had some guts to go back out in the car again later the same day. Ha, I didn’t have much of a choice to go out again…my husband made me. Is it any easier driving here in front of a Scottish crowd? We organise all the trackdays here so I know the circuit well which certainly helps. I’m still getting used to the car though, as we’ve taken the power from about 400bhp to somewhere around 500bhp for this year. |
|
There’s a lot of competitors in the 4WD class, do you ever wish you’d gone for a rear wheel drive Skyline so there’s less competition?
No, I had an Impreza road car so am used to 4WD and before this I had a Peugeot 205 track car.
Do the other driver’s treat you well on the circuit as you’re the only woman in the competition?
Ha, yeah it’s quite nice, they treat me nicely. It would be nice to have another girl to compete against though!
The secret of Buddy Club success
|
|
During Round Two of 2009’s Time Attack series at Knockhill, Paul Hughes in the Buddyclub Integra DC5 had a major problem. While qualifying a CV joint failed, resulting in his front offside wheel coming off. In these circumstances finding replacement parts to get the car fixed and back on track can be tricky and there was no way the team could get hold of a new CV bearing. So what did they do? They made one from the ring end of a spanner and a chopped off socket of all things! It clearly worked though as Paul went on to win his class and finish fifth quickest in Club Class overall. With the Buddyclub suspension set-up and new engine for this season which has boosted power from 275bhp to 305bhp, you can bet Paul will continue to shine this season, especially with the sort of ingenuity his team showed backing him. |
Clubber #6 Graham hooks up with Zen
RaceDynamix announce Zen Performance Race Engineering Support
Time Attack club challenge #6 competitor Duncan Graham is proud to announce that ZEN Performance will be commissioned to provide Race Engineer support for Time Attack 2009 series.
Following on from the on-event support at the final round of Time Attack 2008 at Snetterton, Duncan feels that this is a crucial piece of the jigsaw often overlooked and who better to provide this support and guidance than the 2007 champions.
ZEN will use their massive Time Attack experience and knowledge to assist Duncan in engineering the car for the season, assisting with chassis / engine tuning and set-up, along with good old fashioned moral support.
Duncan is very excited about this partnership and the forthcoming Time Attack season that is starting at Oulton Park on the 25th April.
