Apart from the Club Challenge RWD Class 1st and 2nd places all 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions in all the other classes are still undecided for the 2010 season, this means the final at Snetterton Circuit is shaping up to be a nail biter for a lot of the competitors, teams and fans.

Snetterton being a power circuit will now favour the big bhp cars and everyone is being very candid about the power they are running. Only when will the qualifying starts and drivers begin to up the power levels will we really see who has got what power to play with. The final will I am sure be a fantastic event with drivers playing tactics through to the finals at the end of the day.

Points wise it is 5 down to 1 (1st down to 5th place ) for Qualifying and 100 down to 10 (1st down to 10th place) for the Final so as you can see from the table below mathematically quite a lot of drivers have very good chances of not only the championship wins but also many have a chance to grab the 2nd and 3rd placings that are still very prestigious.

Championship standings after Round 4 at Cadwell Park

All drivers have had a very hard seasons competition so far so having this summer break gives them the opportunity to have a well earned rest and refresh their cars for the final round. Although some drivers are still out there practising, others may be fettling their cars whilst some are simply parked up waiting for October 10th comfortable in the knowledge they have a good package to run with. Time Attack never sits still………

The stunning Cadwell Park circuit was always going to be the wild card event of the 2010 Time Attack series. Its first time on the calendar, drivers and their teams had nothing from previous years to compare their set-ups or tactics too, but that didn’t stop them from putting on a spectacular show for the Lincolnshire crowds and setting some impressive new lap records. Steve Guglielmi and his perfectly balanced Lotus ended up with top honours in the Pro Class, posting a 1:31.903 secs time on lap three of three in the final to take the win. It was a hard fought group though, with Gareth Lloyd in his Car Planet Racing EVO coming a close 2nd and Gavin Renshaw in the Lateral Performance Impreza getting on the podium in 3rd with a fine display.

Gareth Lloyd narrowly missing out on 3rd win of the year

Gavin Renshaw received a great reception at the podium for his 3rd place

The Pro Class results mean that Guglielmi and Lloyd have now won two rounds of this year’s Championship each, meaning that Round 5 at Snetterton will be a crucial decider for who will be crowned Champion. Gugliemi afterwards pointed out how pleased he was with his performance at Cadwell, a circuit that he was treating with caution but that ultimately proved to suit his Exige perfectly. With his name in the Time Attack history books for a new fastest lap too, he was also keen to point out how this year’s competitors had continued to push things on, his new lap record joining two others that had been set in 2010. With his eyes on Snetterton now, he’ll be thinking about adding a fourth for the year too.

Guglielmi: driving into the record books

Jamie Nicholls in the bright yellow CPR EVO took 4th place in Pro Class, with the fifth quickest time of the day going to Robin Duxbury in the Redbrick Racing Cyber EVO. All of the Pro Class drivers in the final finished faster than the Club Pro cars, although there was extra pressure in Nicholls’ case to do so. A wager had been set that the JAPDNA.com EVO, driven at Cadwell by Martin Byford, wouldn’t finish within 3secs of his car. Byford’s pink Club Pro EVO put in a storming performance despite being well down on power in comparison to Nicholls’ car and its 1:36.882 secs lap was just 2.796secs away from the Pro Class car. That not only put Byford on the third step of the Club Pro podium but also gave his team an extra reason to celebrate.

Byfield got within 3secs of Pro Class driver Jamie Nicholls

Lee Broadhurst in his EVO IX secured 2nd place in the Club Pro Class, while Paul Doyle in the ex-Zen Performance Impreza mustered up a superb 1:35.770secs time to give him a class win.

Broadhurst's EVO IX looks as well as it goes

Club Pro Class winner Paul Doyle

There was a new class for Cadwell Park too, the results of some RWD drivers in Club Class over previous rounds meaning they were forced up into the Club Pro RWD Class. The Supras of Steve Linton and Paul Whiffin were up against the Lotus Exige of Jamie Wilson in this class, which was a tough call for them at the twisty circuit. Unfortunately Whiffen’s Supra had to retire from the competition but he still won a prize after dropping copious amounts of oil on the track for being the only man who had reached under his car to check his sump…only to find he was touching his crankshaft! Linton did a little better by posting the 17th quickest time on the day to finish 2nd in class, but it was Wilson who ran away with it, a 1:37.803secs time giving him the win.

Jamie Wilson took first win in Club Pro RWD Class

Steve Linton secured 2nd place in Club Pro RWD

Impressively, Scott Robson in the Club Class posted a time to equal some of those in the Club Pro Class. His Impreza fought hard the whole day to secure a win in the 4WD class, but the time he set was also the quickest of any in Club Class. Imprezas seemed well-suited to the circuit with the energetic driving style of Matthias Bachler helping his to 2nd in the 4WD class, although many spectators may have given him 1st place for entertainment alone. He didn’t appear to have any fear of attempting flight at the crest of Mountain, much to the delight of the grandstand (in fact, a number of Imprezas seemed to take the same approach there!). Walter Morris in his R32 Skyline finished off the podium places in that class, despite it smoking quite heavily, Morris still managed to push it to a 1:40.816secs time.

The quickest car in Club Class, Robson's Impreza took the 4wd honours

Another stand-out performance in Club Class was in the NA category, Daniel Gannon piloting his BMW E36 M3 to a spectacular win. His 1:39.720secs lap time in the finals saw him not only take the win but also record the second quickest time in Club Class. An impressive feat for the RWD car, but one that looked on the cards from the early practice sessions. Paul Hughes in the BuddyClub Integra also got back into the swing of things with a 2nd place, while the ever-popular Metro 6R4 of Mark Pollard took 3rd place.

Gannon showed just what his M3 is capable of

Paul Hughes returned to the podium positions

With the Supras now up in Club Pro RWD, the RWD class in Club Class was up for grabs and it was the RX-7 of Matt Webb that did the grabbing. He pipped the Sierra Cosworth of Ronnie Amis to top spot by over 2.5secs with Gordon Wright’s R33 GTS-t taking 3rd place on the podium, another 2secs down on Amis. They may not have been too close at Cadwell, but this is a class that is sure to get even more competitive in the future.

Matt Webb storming to a class win with his RX-7

The FWD Class was another competitive grouping with the MINIs all looking comfortable at the “mini Nurburgring”. It was Bo Nielsen in his Astra VXR that set the standard though, his impressive vehicle continuing to exceed expectations. His 1:41.017secs time was quicker than a lot of 4WD and RWD cars which proves just how well a good FWD car can be on the track. His nearest competitor in the FWD class was Julian Holdcroft in the Civic Type R (some 2secs behing), who narrowly beat the screaming supercharged MINI of Nigel Brown into the 2nd podium spot.

Vauxhalls on top in the FWD Class thanks to Bo Nielsen

There’s just one round left of the 2010 Time Attack series, taking place in October at Snetterton. That circuit will throw very different challenges at the drivers compared to the most undulating and twisty Cadwell Park…so those who did well in Round 4 may not be guaranteed of a repeat performance. With Class winners yet to be decided, Round 5 will be crucial in sorting out which drivers will have their ambitions realised and which will go home empty handed. If the dedication and incredible display of on-the-limit driving at Cadwell was anything to go by though, the crowds at Snetterton will be in for a real treat. Who will you be rooting for?

Time Attack regulars may have noticed a new face at Brands Hatch for Round 3. Laura McMillan is the new Time Attack girl…and she’s certainly getting plenty of attention. The brunette stunner adds an element of glamour in the pits and around the Modified Live events, so it would have been rude not to catch up with her and give Time Attack fans an insight into our new girl.

So Laura, how did we get so lucky in having you with us?

I was approached by Time Attack at another promotional event and encouraged to send some photographs to apply for the Time Attack girl position.

Did you know anything about Time Attack beforehand?

The name sounded familiar as I’ve attended many car shows in the past but i wasn’t sure what they did!

How are you finding your new role so far?

My first time at Brands was so exciting! I watched some of the last round from the highest point / the watch tower, right above the pits and it was amazing. You really get a feel for the speed of the cars from that height. It was such an experience, blazing sunshine on my face , the wind in my hair and hot cars racing past me at 150+mph ! Certainly an experience i won’t forget

Any one car impress you particularly?

All of the cars amazed me. I’ve spent years learning about Motorbikes so it was great to be learning something new about cars and how much time and money was spent on them to make them so damn quick! It made me appreciate just how passionate the Time Attack drivers are about their vehicles.

So what car do you drive then?

I drive an Alfa Romeo 147 Lusso ( which keeps breaking down!)

How would you like to go in one of the Time Attack cars?

I would absoloutly LOVE to be taken for a ride in a Time Attack car. I completed a charity Driving event last year where we were able to drive vehicles around a race track. I drove all sorts from Military tankers, to Fire engines and Double decker buses, however i got a real taste for fast cars when i managed to get 130mph out of a Lotus before my instructor told me to break! Doesnt sound that quick but it’s the fastest i’ve ever driven. Ever since then i’ve wanted to go back on a track and feel that buzz again! I was recently involved in terry Grants stunt show at a promotional event and spun around at top speeds in his TVR. I loved it!

You obviously have an adrenaline junky streak! What’s the most exciting bit about your new role with us?

The best thing about being the Official Time Attack girl is having vip access all areas! This means I can see all the action from the best spots and then I’m able to meet the drivers and talk to them about their performances.

And what about Laura McMillan? What can you tell us about yourself?

I’m currently living in King’s Lynn but i’m originally from Scotland. I was born in Paisley, lived there until I was 7. then we moved to England.

You’re also a brunette, don’t blondes have more fun?

Brunettes definitely have more fun. FACT! I’ve dyed my hair every colour of the rainbow and I always go back to brunette, as brunette is best!

We’d be tempted to agree. Lastly then, you rock the Time Attack outfit, but it must get pretty hot in there!

Yep, I survived the sweltering heat in black lycra!! Cooled down nicely with a Champagne shower at the podium! I think I’ll have my brolly on stand by next time. Good job I didn’t get pulled over on the way home as the police would have breath-alised me in an instant. I stunk of champers and not a drop passed my lips!!

Laura looks set to be a smash hit with Time Attack fans. If you’d like to see more pictures of her then check out the Time Attack Round 3 galleries. Alternatively, you can come and meet her in person at Round 4 of Time Attack, this weekend at Cadwell Park.

While other sporting events may have left supporters feeling blue, the crowds at Brands Hatch weren’t let down by the high octane Time Attack show. The increasingly varied entrant list hit the Indy circuit hard, battling against the scorching hot, tyre-sapping weather as well as against the clock. By the end of the day their best times had been posted and Round 3 of the 2010 series was over, with some surprising results. Headed by Pro Class winner Steve Guglielmi in the Lotus Exige, every competing group bar one had a winner piloting a car not originally produced in Japan. Considering how incredible some of those beasts from the East are, it’s a real indication of how Time Attack is continuing to highlight the mind-blowing abilities of tuners in the UK.

Guglielmi and Mileham in the pits

Lloyd in the CPR EVO, looking for third consecutive win

Guglielmi in first, Lloyd second and Nicholls third

Guglielmi’s win was his first of the season and he looked determined to get that top spot. Despite the heat, he stayed out on track for 10 laps in the final but couldn’t beat the 49.031secs time set on his second flying lap. It was slightly down on his Time Attack lap record set last year, but it was enough to keep Gareth Lloyd in the Car Planet Racing EVO from notching his third consecutive win of the season. “It’s good to win one finally,” said Gugleilmi afterwards, “Gareth and the guys at CPR are doing a great job this year. We didn’t break the track record, but with the heat that’s not surprising”. Lloyd’s CPR team mate Jamie Nicholls was also on the podium for the third time this year, taking the next step down from Lloyd to make it an EVO heavy top three.

Another EVO made a welcome return, competing as a One Hit Wonder for this round of Time Attack. The mad looking Norris Designs EVO took to the track with a vengeance and posted the third quickest overall time of the day, but driver Simon Norris wasn’t eligible for series points or a podium place. It was the debut of Robin Duxbury’s extreme Redbrick Racing Cyber EVO too and it put in an impressive first performance, with the eighth quickest overall time. As the series continues, this is surely a car to keep an eye out for.

Norris Designs' EVO, back and in business

Meanwhile, Gavin Renshaw in the yellow Lateral Performance Impreza was the quickest Subarau in Pro Class, picking up the SIDC trophy in the process with the sixth quickest time. Interestingly, Kevin Horsley in the Scooby Clinic Impreza was marginally quicker in the Club Pro Class, managing to post a top five time on the day and pushing the EVO of Russ Paton down to third spot on the Club Pro podium. There was a popular victory for the second placed car in Club Pro, Shane Smith keeping out on track in the great looking, TR Racing prepared Skyline GT-R until he posted his 52.378secs time. It looks like the team have finally nailed the set-up of the R34, which is promising for the rest of the season.

Lateral Performance's Impreza; quickest Pro Class Subaru

Down in Club Class it was all about the Rear Wheel Drive Class at the top of the table. Jamie Wilson took advantage of the twisty Brands Hatch circuit to manoeuvre his Lotus Exige to the quickest time of the day, posting a 52.187secs time. Just 0.363secs was the difference between him and Steve Linton in the Toyota Supra, Matthew Webb putting his FD3S Mazda RX7 into third spot just 0.751secs slower.

Jamie Wilson putting his RWD Exige to good use

Behind him was another popular winner in the 4WD Class. Warren Kelly achieved a well-deserved victory in his Imperial Blue Escort Cosworth, one of four Cosworth’s that competed on the day. He kept Fiona Kindness, another well-supported driver, at bay in her R32 Skyline with the Impreza of Scott Robson taking third place.

Warren Kelly doing it for the Ford fans

It was a more familiar looking podium in the Naturally Aspirated Class though, Mark Pollard’s Metro 6R4 pleasing the crowds with a Class win, flanked on one side by Jeff Mileham in his Lotus Elise and the other by Paul Hughes in the BuddyClub DC5 Integra, proving NA performance can be delivered in any drivetrain.

The 6R4 always gets attention...and often gets Class wins!

There are a few things being proven in the FWD Class too, mainly that MINIs shouldn’t be under-estimated. Nigel Brown and David Ward took their blue and yellow Coopers into glory with second and third places in Class respectively. They were two of four Coopers on a MINI adventure at Brands, all of which looked like they had potential to push on in the future. But they’ve got their work cut out to beat Bo Nielsen in his constantly surprising Astra VXR. Sporting wider front arches to try and assist with brake cooling, Nielsen recorded a 55.628secs time in the final to snatch the Class win and looks the car to beat in this increasingly competitive group.

So while the football World Cup may have been disappointing for the British, there was a distinctively home-grown feeling to the victories at Round 3 of Time Attack. Two Lotuses, one Metro, a Vauxhall and an Escort Cosworth took Class wins, only Kevin Horsley in an Impreza claiming a victory for Japanese machinery. With winning streaks broken and teams and drivers clearly finding more time in their cars, how will the EVOs, Imprezas, Skylines, Supras and Civics respond in Round 4? Taking place at Cadwell Park, an unproven track for the Time Attack series, the only thing that can be accurately predicted is the crowds will be in for more high-speed thrills and high octane excitement from one of the most competitive motorsport formats around. It’s another tight and technical circuit and should prove to be a stormer, so make sure you’re there to witness some of the most highly tuned cars in the UK.
