A word from Neil

I’m back for the 3rd year running but this time with a new car to replace the previous Impreza I was running before. Entering this year as a team with Phil England in his Type R Impreza. I am looking to have a few good battles with him on track for team dominance.

Having had a mixture of success and disappointment with the Impreza I decided to try something different. The new car is a 1995 Nissan Skyline R33 GTR purchased as a fresh unmolested import in July 2007. In that time the car has undergone a transformation in to what is competing today. The interior has been stripped, and a 7 point roll cage fitted and painted body coloured. Performance modifications have been limited to “biggest bang per buck” parts, so the turbos have been replaced with larger steel versions, along with a complete exhaust, cams, air filters and fuel system. The engine has not been opened at this point in time although I do have a spare block that I will be building up this year. As a result current power mapped at a conservative 1.2bar due to the OEM head gasket. All of this work has been completed in 6 months. The car therefore has far more potential to come yet!

Due to the cars weight, a focus has also been put on reducing the overall mass as much as possible. When purchased the car weighed in at 1540kgs without driver (tested). I am hoping that this has now been reduced to near 1420kgs or less without driver with the addition of light weight components such as D2 adjustable coilovers, K-Sport 8 pot 356mm brakes (Courtesy of APEX), and Lightweight FRP boot/bonnet (Courtesy of Japsalon). Unnecessary components have also been removed such as the Air-conditioning system, carpets and sound deadening.

I’m looking forward to support for the mighty “Team Monkfish” from the club that he co-founded, SOX-JapOC (www.sox-japoc.co.uk), a multimarque club for every Japanese car.

I am greatly looking forward to all the rounds this year, especially the new tracks as it will provide a new challenge to all the drivers.

Heres to a fast, fun and reliable Time Attack 2008!
