FROM HILLCLIMBS TO CIRCUIT COMPETITION: TIME ATTACK OPENS ALL CLASSES TO SPRINT & HILLCLIMB DRIVERS

20th April 2026

RS Interclub licence holders can now compete in every Time Attack class for 2026 – opening the door to a new level of competition.

Time Attack has removed one of the key barriers to entry for the 2026 season, with drivers now only requiring a Motorsport UK RS Interclub licence to compete across all classes.

For competitors in the UK Sprint and Hillclimb scene – where the RS Interclub licence is already standard – the impact is immediate. Drivers who may not have previously considered Time Attack can now enter the championship without upgrading their licence, or compete on a round-by-round basis at circuits of their choice.

The change creates a clear pathway for a sector of the sport already closely aligned with Time Attack. Across Sprinting and Hillclimbing, there are highly developed, performance-focused cars that naturally fit the Time Attack model – both in engineering approach and outright capability. With the licence barrier now removed, that crossover has never been more accessible.

While Sprint and Hillclimb competition is built around point-to-point runs, Time Attack offers a different challenge: multiple timed laps on full circuits, allowing drivers to build pace, refine performance and maximise track time across a session. It’s a format that rewards the same core principles – precision, control and outright speed – but within a circuit environment.

Beyond accessibility, Time Attack also places competitors in front of large trackside audiences, with events taking place at major UK automotive shows including TunerfestModified LiveGO Japan and JDM JAM. Across the season, drivers compete in front of thousands of spectators – adding a level of visibility and atmosphere beyond a typical club motorsport event.

Paul McErlean, Head of Motorsport at Time Attack, said:
“This is an important change for 2026 because it removes a genuine barrier for drivers who already have the right kind of car and experience – making the step into Time Attack far more straightforward.

This is also about giving RS Interclub licence holders the opportunity to step onto premium circuits and compete – using the same licence and the same equipment they already run.

There is a strong overlap between Time Attack and the sprint and hill climb world. Many of those competitors are running exactly the sort of cars that fit naturally with what we do, and now the licence position makes that transition straightforward.”

For drivers looking for a fresh challenge without starting from scratch, Time Attack now offers a clear and accessible next step – combining competitive track action, strong event platforms and a format built around outright performance.

Drivers not yet holding an RS Interclub licence can apply easily through Motorsport UK, with a simple online process and self-declaration medical.
