By far the most popular category that for years has attracted the highest number of entries, are the Club Classes. Split into three sub-classes for front, rear and four-wheel-drive cars, it’s regularly proved to be the most competitive too, with finishing positions often separated by 100ths of a second – a measure of the effectiveness of the regulations bearing in mind the variety of cars taking part. Please note that depending on the entries received, the sub-classes may be amalgamated.
The popularity of the Club Classes means they get their own dedicated session, with no other classes running on track at the same time. This encourages close competition and sees drivers pushing their cars to the absolute limit, often registering lap times that are quicker than more powerful cars in the higher classes.
Club Class cars must be based on production models and may have a certain level of modifications carried out. Restrictions apply however, with aero limited to no more than 100mm from the main body and rear wings no wider than the car itself. Sequential gearboxes, flat floors and any type of space-framing is not permitted. Cars must also have fully functioning OE lights and operate within the blanket 105db noise limit.
Like all other classes that are covered by Time Attack Club Category rules, the only specific equipment that has to be fitted to make the car eligible, is a four-point harness and a hand-held fire extinguisher. And for the driver it’s an approved helmet, race suit, boots and gloves. Although not compulsory, it’s recommended other safety equipment is fitted, such as a cage, ignition cut-off switch and extinguisher system.
Controlled Pirelli Trofeo R tyres must be used and these are available at discounted prices to all registered competitors. Dispensations are given for cars that require tyres not catered for in the Pirelli range.
Drivers who sign-up for the whole season will score championship points and win trophies for first, second and third places in each class. Phased payment plans are available to make the cost of participation easier to manage. Entry is also available on an event-by-event basis for just £360 per-round.
Club Class competitors will take part in all four 15-minute (minimum) sessions: Warm-up, Practice, Qualifying and the Final. Championship points are awarded in the Qualifying and the Final sessions, whereas it’s the finishing position in the Final that dictates the overall results.
