As its name suggests, Pocket Rocket is a class specifically designed for smaller cars, such as hot hatches and compact sports cars. It’s highly competitive, easy to enter and represents Time Attack’s hot hatch modified cars. In fact, whether it’s near standard or features a race-spec engine, transmission or suspension set up, then the car could be eligible.
Pocket Rocket Class can be split into two sub-classes: FI (Forced Induction) and NA (Naturally Aspirated). Turbo or super-charged engine-cars are restricted to no more than 1600cc, whereas naturally aspirated engines may stretch to 2240cc — the equivalent size that is designated to deliver parity of power output – a proven formula to balance this area.
The most significant regulation for the Pocket Rocket class is cars must have the same configuration of engine as fitted to the standard car, but it can be modified and the car stripped and caged. Other restrictions apply to the level of aero, no sequential transmissions and any type of space-framing for example.
On the driver side, you’ll need the correct personal safety kit such as helmet, race suit, gloves and boots and you’ll need to apply for your Motorsport UK licence (no ARDS test required in our Club categories). Before you compete, your car will be scrutineered to confirm it meets the safety requirements and the relevant Pocket Rocket class rules. All of the detail you’ll need; including eligibility, required items, and what modifications are permitted — is set out in the official regulations linked lower down this page, and our team is always on hand if you’d like a steer, especially if it’s your first time in a competitive setting.
The class is very competitive and a wide variety of cars compete each year. If your car has more modifications than this class allows, please check our Club Challenge classes where further car upgrades are permitted.
All competitors take part in four 15-minute (minimum) on-track sessions within their class: Warm-Up, Attack 1, Attack 2 and Super Attack.
This format gives drivers multiple opportunities to refine setup and push for their quickest lap of the event, building towards the decisive Super Attack session.
Across the season, competitors perform in front of tens of thousands of spectators as the championship headlines on-track at major automotive events including Modified Live, Tunerfest, JDM Jam, GO Japan and the Obsession Car Show, providing a fantastic platform to showcase driving ability, engineering expertise and partner brands.
If you’re looking for competitive, accessible motorsport with plenty of track time, strong exposure and an unforgettable season of racing, the Time Attack Championship is the perfect place to compete.
