The Pro Class is where performance and lap times step up a level, due to the permissable use of slick tyres and unlimited aero. It is the top-category for Time Attack and an arena designed to attract professional drivers and teams, the Pro Class is where constructors are able to push the limits of what can be achieved by tuning and modifying a road-based vehicle.
Whereas in the Invitational class where chassis modifications and spaceframing can be carried out, Pro Class cars must be based on production models, retain OE suspension mounting points and utilise the manufacturer’s integral shell structure. They have the option of running slick and racing wet Yokohama tyres and whilst they can be fitted with sequential gearboxes and flat floors, and aero is unlimited.
Split into two sub-classes for two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive cars – although these can amalgamated if there is a parity of performance between the two drive-line configurations – Pro Class cars have to be built to Motorsport UK Section J regulations. This means they must comply with racing rules and be fitted with safety cages, a plumbed in extinguisher system, external ignition cut-off switch, in-date seats and five-point harness.
On the driver side, you’ll need the correct personal safety kit such as helmet, race suit, gloves and boots and you’ll need to apply for your Motorsport UK licence (no ARDS test required). Before you compete, your car will be scrutineered to confirm it meets the safety requirements and the relevant Pro class rules. All of the detail you’ll need — including eligibility, required items, and what modifications are permitted — is set out in the official regulations linked lower down this page, and our team is always on hand if you’d like a steer, especially if it’s your first time in a competitive setting.
You can enter as a one‑off to see how you get on (SRE — Single Round Entry), or register for the full season and chase championship points and podium celebrations. The only tyre requirement to note is that if you plan to score points and be eligible for lap records, you’ll need to run the championship control tyre: the Yokohama slick or wet tyres, otherwise you can use your existing slick/wet tyres.
This class is for the highest level car builds where tuning house-built cars reach their optimum laptime performance – the highest levels of power and aero – by the time you get to this class you are knocking on the door of GT laptimes.
The class is our halo ‘Time Attack car ‘. If your car has more modifications than this class allows, i.e. you want to explore space framing and so on, please check our Invitation class.
All competitors take part in four 15-minute (minimum) on-track sessions within their class: Warm-Up, Attack 1, Attack 2 and Super Attack.
This format gives drivers multiple opportunities to refine setup and push for their quickest lap of the event, building towards the decisive Super Attack session.
Across the season, competitors perform in front of tens of thousands of spectators as the championship headlines on-track at major automotive events including Modified Live, Tunerfest, JDM Jam, GO Japan and the Obsession Car Show, providing a fantastic platform to showcase driving ability, engineering expertise and partner brands.
If you’re looking for competitive, accessible motorsport with plenty of track time, strong exposure and an unforgettable season of racing, the Time Attack Championship is the perfect place to compete.
